One goal of public art is to create a sense of place, and in this case I actually put the viewer in their place. I will translate an image of San Diego County into a grid of mosaic tile. The mosaic will consist of gradations of colored glass and porcelain tile. Within the mosaic will be a single circular spot of red designating the round seat next to the table. The top of this seat will be covered in the same solid red tile indicating “you are here”. An aluminum frame will surround the mosaic and be inscribed with the GPS position of the exact location of the seat, “geo-tagging” the location for the visitor.

The artwork will be composed of commercial glass and mosaic tile, a durable and appropriate material for long term exterior use. The mosaic will be mounted onto a waterproof cement substrate and the grout used will be sealed for further long-term display. An aluminum frame will hide the bolts used to mount the mosaic to the table top and provide a finished edge. In addition to the bolts, a construction adhesive can be used to permanently affix the mosaic to the top of the table.
