| | | “Footprints on the Sands of Time” 2004 • Ceramic • 72” x 108” • Solana Beach, California This mural was created with the help of the science teacher and utilized a cross curriculum approach and incorporated lessons in geology, science and art for every student at the K-6 school. Each student was given clay that they imprinted with textural patterns from the soles of their shoes. This process, along with providing aesthetic value, also taught the students about fossilization. The finished tiles were set to represent sedimentary layers of rock with the oldest tiles (those created by the 6th graders) at the bottom. The finished mural is entitled “Footprints on the Sands of Time” after the quote from poet Hendry Wadsworth Longfellow. | | Be the first to post a comment.
